ONE DAY A FEW WEEKS AGO, after spending a couple of hours at my desk, I decided to give my eyes a break from the computer. (This is part of good eye care, BTW.) I changed my clothes and went outside, into the sunshine and fresh air, to do some yard work. I jumped right in, raking leaves and spreading mulch.
Mulch bags are a little heavy, and I know this because I've lifted hundreds of them over the years. But on this day, when I lifted my first bag and swung it into the wheelbarrow, I felt a slight twinge on the right side of my lower back. I didn't think much of it at first; I loaded the wheelbarrow and wheeled it to the spot where I would spread it out.
